Introducing bespoke elements to a project is not just about overcoming problems such as an unusual floorplan or a lack of space. While bespoke design, whether it’s a single item of furniture or floor-to-ceiling storage, will certainly help meet such challenges, its true value goes far beyond pure function. Imagine buying a suit. Off-the-shelf is great. It’s easy, it’s affordable, its practical. But tailor-made is individual, it’s intentional, and it’s artistic. Bespoke design adds personality, utilises beautiful materials and skilled craftsmanship and, best of all, will stand the test of time.

Here at Henry Blake Hardware, we understand how bespoke design can enhance any project. We create high-quality custom hardware for interiors of all kinds, perfectly complementing your overall design concept.

It all starts with a vision

Before the detailed design process starts, it’s important to hone your vision for the project. How will the space be used and by whom? What are the must-haves and the definite don’t-wants? What is the budget, and how tight are the deadlines? Creating a mood board, either digitally or on an actual piece of card, will pull together your visual ideas, from colours to furniture and finishes, and start to narrow down what is possible, what works and what appeals the most.

Choose your team

For your vision of bespoke design to be fulfilled, you’ll need experienced and sympathetic professionals to help, whether architects, interior designers, builders, carpenters, plumbers, electricians or construction specialists of another type.

We are always delighted to be involved at this stage, too. While it’s easy to leave the decisions about hardware until the very end, in fact it’s wise to ensure that what seems like a finishing touch is included in your early planning. This not only ensures consistency across the whole scheme and a chance for the experts to work together to ensure every item of hardware will perform as intended, but also provides plenty of time to design, refine and manufacture your perfect pieces.

Planning and design

Your team will help you bring your vision to life, drawing up detailed plans and elevations, developing a schedule of works, applying for any necessary permissions, ordering supplies, coordinating labour and ensuring regulations are complied with. They’ll also suggest improvements and deal with any problems that arise. On a more pleasurable note, they’ll also help you choose materials, finishes and colours, ensuring the optimum balance of beauty and performance.

We will work with you to develop custom hardware for every part of your project, whether a pair of statement door knobs or a series of tactile cupboard pulls. We can develop CAD or 3D drawings, and prototypes or samples if necessary, advising on mechanical issues, too. You can choose from our wide variety of finishes, which range from classic polished brass to contemporary matte black. You’ll then be able to include hardware lead times within the overall schedule, without stress, compromise, missed deadlines and potential extra expense

Elevated style

The vital appeal of any project does not lie in its use of space, its furnishings and its colourways, but in its character and the small details that tell a story. Bespoke designs express that character, with every element demonstrating the careful thought behind them and the craftsmanship involved in their making. Custom pieces transform a space and solve problems with style. An investment in high-quality bespoke design uplifts a scheme and – because it will age gracefully – is a sustainable choice, too.

At Henry Blake Hardware we’re delighted to work with you to create beautiful bespoke hardware that turns your imagination into reality. With decades of experience in working with architects, interior designers and homeowners, we understand both practical demands and aesthetic possibilities, and can help with the custom-design process from start to finish.
