How would you describe the design philosophy behind Q Design House?
At Q Design House, our philosophy is rooted in considered alignment between interior architecture and interior design to achieve the highest level of design, tailored to our clients and their personal aesthetic. We believe in combining functional design alongside creative design to curate luxurious interiors that stand the test of time.
Q Design House was born with the vision of building a studio that not only delivers extraordinary interiors, but that has become known for its outstanding levels of service, meticulous attention to detail and an understanding of clients’ practical requirements. Our portfolio ranges across all aesthetics and property types, demonstrating our commitment to achieving the client’s vision.
When designing hardware, how does your approach differ from designing interiors?
While the scale differs, the thinking remains the same. With interiors, we are orchestrating an entire spatial experience — light, flow, texture, atmosphere. Hardware, however, demands an intense focus on precision and practicality. Designing ironmongery requires a distilled approach. Every millimetre matters. The way a handle meets the hand, the weight of it, the shadow line it creates against cabinetry — these subtle details become the whole story.
In many ways, hardware design is a purer expression of our philosophy, because it is design reduced to its most essential form.
What role does material play in your design process?
Material is fundamental to everything we do. It informs not only how something looks, but how it feels, ages and performs over time. We are always thinking about tactility and longevity. How will this surface develop over time? How does it respond to light? How does it feel when used daily? Particularly in hardware, material honesty is key — the weight and authenticity of solid brass or other metals adds a sensory richness that cannot be replicated. For us, material is never decorative; it is integral to the integrity of the design.
What drew you to working with Henry Blake on this collection?
Henry Blake’s commitment to craftsmanship and quality immediately resonated with us. Its focus on producing luxury ironmongery with integrity aligns closely with our own values. Ultimately, its finishes are beautiful and work in both contemporary and traditional environments. Each item is a work of art in itself and not just a piece of hardware to achieve its practical purpose.
The opportunity to design a collection that reflects both brands’ commitment to understated luxury was an exciting and meaningful partnership.

The collection is designed to work across multiple scales; why was that important to you?
In our interior work, cohesion across a space is essential. We wanted the collection to feel versatile enough to sit beautifully within different contexts — from compact joinery details to larger architectural applications. Designing across multiple scales allows designers to create continuity throughout a project. A language of form can be carried from cabinetry to doors to larger statements, creating subtle rhythm and harmony. That flexibility makes the collection both practical and powerful.
How do you balance contemporary design with longevity and timelessness?
We believe timelessness comes from simplicity and integrity of material. Contemporary design does not need to be trend-driven; it can simply reflect modern ways of living while remaining restrained. If a detail feels unnecessary, it is removed. What remains is a clear, confident form that feels relevant today but will still feel resolved in decades to come.
Longevity is also about quality — both in construction and in aesthetic. When something is beautifully made and thoughtfully designed, it transcends passing fashions.

Where do you currently find creative inspiration?
Inspiration often comes from nature and looking at how organic shapes can be applied to materials, which enhances the beauty of the natural materials. We also find inspiration in our everyday design work where we are looking for a solution to a current project that doesn’t exist — this is how we design with purpose. Often, the most compelling ideas come from observing how subtle details create the maximum impact.
What details do you think people often overlook in well-designed interiors?
It is usually underestimating the importance of all of the layers of interior design. Yes, we design and select the larger furniture items, but what truly creates an outstanding design are all of the elements that come together in the space – that might be a skirting detail or the temperature of lighting, or it might come from the layering of textures, accessories or the accent of a beautifully designed handle. These elements may seem minor individually, but collectively they define the quality of a space.
A beautifully designed room can be undermined by poorly considered finishes, while thoughtfully selected ironmongery can elevate even the simplest joinery.
